REPRODUCTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS IN GLASS :: HOTEL MURANO - TACOMA, WASHINGTON

Moon Shadow Glass partnered recently with a number of other companies to produce twenty-one art theme walls for Provenance Hotels Corporation at Their Hotel Murano in Tacoma, Washington. Each floor of the Hotel Murano is dedicated to one internationally recognized glass artist. The artist's story, inspiration, creation process and example of actual work is incorporated into each theme wall. The concept for the hotel renovation was conceived by the interior design firm Corso Staicoff of Portland, Oregon.

Moon Shadow Glass worked with projects environmental graphic designers Ditroen, Inc., of Portland, Oregon. Collaboratively, Moonshadow and Ditroen developed a process to introduce these artists to hotel guests and increase appreciaton for glass artistry in general by using glass as the presentation medium. Designs and production artwork was provided by Ditroen in a format usable by Moon Shadow computer graphics system. Pushdot studio provided high resolution scans and photo touch-up work on the artist supplied photos. Utilizing both glass surfaces, Moon Shadow sandblasted the images, text and graphics to create a memorable art presentation on the glass walls. Paint infilled graphics - and in one instance, custom airbrush work - was used to enhance the visual impact. World class airbrush artist Rapheal Schnepf was sourced for his talent to make the etched photo process resemble molten glass.

Each twenty-foot long wall is punctuated with with a display box and a back painted "window" - also created by Moon Shadow - to house a piece of work supplied by the featured artist. A sandblasted mirror with imformational graphics directs guests to their room where prints of the artists sketches complete the glass story. The effort of all parties involved combined to make the project a tremendous commercial and artistic success.
